Their dad played guitar, and their mom played piano, resulting in a home filled with music. For We The Kingdom, their faithful worship has led them full circle to this moment. Created in 1950 to continue the tradition of Major Glenn Miller’s Army Air Forces dance band, the Airmen of Note consists of 17 active-duty musicians and one vocalist. Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., it is one of six musical ensembles that make up the U.S. Air Force Band. Through the years, the Airmen of Note has presented its own brand of big band jazz to audiences via annual tours across the United States, deployments around the world and local performances throughout metropolitan Washington, D.C. Their commitment to musical excellence has earned the respect of the foremost jazz artists from around the globe, leading to many collaborative performances and recordings with such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan and Doc Severinsen. In 1990, the Airmen of Note established the Jazz Heritage Series, featuring the “Note” in concert with legendary icons of jazz. The Jazz Heritage Series is broadcast to millions over National Public Radio, independent jazz radio stations, satellite radio services and the Internet. In addition, the “Note” has a legacy of trend-setting recordings, including “Cool Yule” and “Global Reach,” which both climbed near the top of the JazzWeek radio charts.
As part of The U.S. Air Force Band, the Airmen of Note honors those who have served, inspires American citizens to heightened patriotism and service, and connects the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air Force and the United States. Randy Travis’s long-time touring band, consisting of Steve Hinson, David Johnson, Lance Dary, Bill Cook, Joe Van Dyke and Herb Shucher along with longtime Tour manager Jeff Davis will rejoin “Hoss,” as they affectionately call Travis, on the road for the first time since right before his stroke in 2013. The show will consist of Dupré and the band performing all 16 of his iconic number ones including “On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen” and “Three Wooden Crosses.” Randy Travis will make a special appearance and VIP passes are available that include a meet and greet with the country icon, himself.
